Bad Engine Mounts
Posted on Oct 31, 2024We found the issue with the left turn hesitation. The engine mounts were bad! This caused the engine to move over to the right in left turns and upset something. So, we replaced them in eager anticipation of success:
FAIL. That wasn't it. We were shocked. With only a few weeks to go before the American Speed Festival we were getting desperate. We added two ground straps:
FAIL. We dug out the spares box that came with the car and found an ECU and a knock/boost controller so we swapped those in.
Then the car ran on three cylinders! We put the original ECU back in and took it out for a spin. Well, it seemed to work! We think we tested it thoroughly enough but with one week to go before ASF we'd run out of time as we still had to replace the brakes. It would either work or look good failing.
Then, on the morning of the event, it wouldn't start! OMG, what now? We hurriedly removed the ECU and reinstalled hoping beyond hope that there was just a loose connection. It fired right up and we drove it into the trailer.
At ASF it drove flawlessly and was very well received by the spectators. We have no idea what caused the hesitation and only some vague theories as to why it wouldn't start but it works now and that's good enough at the moment. Some pictures from the event:
